Lichfield Scholars Programme

Method of Instruction & Parental Role

Mr. Bruce Fein will instruct Lower School, Middle School, High School, and Collegiate Lichfield Scholars face-to-face every fortnight for three hours.

Both lectures and Socratic dialogue will be employed. He will additionally be available by phone or email at pre-arranged times to answer questions and teach as necessary capped at 3 hours per week.

Lichfield Scholars will be tasked with reading all or portions of books; analyzing what can be deduced about the author's understanding of historical causes, human nature and ethics; writing short papers and discussing the correctness of the author's vision; discerning matters of degree in political truths; learning the art of persuasive advocacy and cogent reasoning from history, fiction, personal experiences, and the clashing elements of human nature.

Lichfield Scholars Programme is self-contained. The Programme is not adjusted according to the Scholar's formal schooling or extracurricular activities.

Sessions with Mr. Fein and the scholar must be attended by at least one parent or guardian. Household domestics, nannies or drivers are unacceptable.

The Lichfield Scholars Programme holds the conviction that education must include enthusiastic parental support and involvement. If a parent or guardian will be unavailable, 72 hour notice will be expected, except in case of emergency.

Those authors, therefore, are to be read at schools that supply most axioms of prudence,
most principles of moral truth, and most materials of conversation; and these purposes are best served by poets, orators, and historians.
